This daily email newsletter will change your life

The headline is not hyperbolic.

Without disclosing intimate details, this year has been one of my roughest. Perhaps the constant emotional and mental exhaustion I feel is further perpetuated by the fact that I'm currently going through my twenties (aka the most trying decade of your life). In fact, this is how I feel on most days since turning 20 (FOUR years ago):

So when I chanced upon Notes From The Universe earlier this year, I thought to myself, "Hey why not? What do I have to lose?" I entered my email, and subsequently started receiving one email a day from the site. These emails were wholly motivational, albeit less preachy and prosaic, and more inspiring and thought-provoking. Along the way, I realised that whenever I was going through an exceptionally rough day, reading the words from "The Universe" would inevitably make me feel lighter. It was always as if a huge weight had been lifted from my chest.

To say the daily emails changed my life is probably accurate. Because I'm a huge planner by nature, I've never been good with letting go of things when they don't go according to plan. I've always held grudges very easily, and never truly saw past the petty hiccups in life. But reading these Notes every day has taught me to trust in the bigger picture, and ultimately, become a person who chooses to be better, not bitter.

Here are a few of my favourites that never fail to shake me up and alter my view of reality:

"And people who continue to show up in spite of self-doubt, confusion, and disappointment, Grace, rock the world."

"The absolute, most sure-fire way of physically moving in the direction of your dreams, Grace, on a day-to-day basis, without messing with the "cursed hows," is living them, now, to any degree that you can."

"Whenever your perspective on something creates emotional pain, Grace, it's always because your perspective is still so narrow that you've yet to see all the good it will make possible. Because it will. Always."

"A great trick to getting what you want, fast, Grace, though one requiring a deep level of understanding, is 'insistence'. Not the kind, however, that expects "life" to behave a certain way, but the kind that expects you to behave a certain way."

"Sometimes, when it seems your wings have suddenly and unexpectedly been clipped, maybe, just maybe, there's more to learn by staying where you are."

Some people rely on religion to get them through tough times, others rely on people. I always turn to words. And these have been the most helpful so far. Who knew it was possible to find solace in email newsletters?
