When it comes to fashion shows, it seems like the bigger, the better. These five shows pulled out all the stops to make an impression, and even years later they’ve left a lasting impression. Standard catwalks? They’re now old hat.
1. Chanel Fall/Winter 2014

You would never associate Chanel with anything as everyday as shopping in the supermarket – so when Karl Lagerfeld transformed the runway into a massive Chanel grocery store, it was all anyone on social media could talk about. Every product had been given the Chanel treatment, even black cotton buds. If only we could strut the aisles as confidently as Miss Delevingne.
2. Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2013

Seeing double? Pairs of models in symmetrical (well, sort of) outfits glided down escalators before strutting their stuff on the runway. Even the escalator itself was in theme with yellow and white stripes. Marc himself made his entrance bounding down the escalator at the finale. Is there anything the man can’t do?

As if the collection wasn’t beautiful enough (think pastel shades, headbands, and frothy skirts), when the models emerged perched on a spinning white carousel strung with lights you could see the fashion crowd swooning with delight. It was cotton-candy girlishness personified.
4. Fendi Great Wall Of China Fashion Show 2007

Staging a runway show on one of the wonders of the world? It sounds impossible, but incredibly, Fendi pulled it off on the Great Wall of China with the setting sun as a backdrop. Major props to the models for succeeding in walking downhill in dangerously high heels!
5. Alexander McQueen Spring/Summer 1999

It takes a very special show to make fashion legend Alexander McQueen cry, and this was the only show which brought tears to his eyes. The moment when model Shalom Harlow stood on a rotating circle while being spray painted has gone down in history as one of fashion’s greatest iconic moments.
